Arran Kenny is an award-winning filmmaker who lives by the beach in Dorset, England. He specialises in producing emotive films that are bespoke to every couple, bringing an academic passion for cinema to his work.
How do you differ from other wedding videographers?
Sometimes when you watch a wedding film, the film has no character or uniqueness. You could replace the couple and the film could stay the same. I hate this cookie-cutter approach to filmmaking. Every couple is different, and so I think every wedding film should be completely unique and individual. It should encapsulate your relationship and your priorities as a couple, but also reflect your personalities as individuals.
How would you describe your style of filmmaking?
I apply simple cinematic principles to my work in order to evoke emotion. I always wants my films to be more of an experience than a document of the day. Every decision I make in the filmmaking process is intentional, designed to make you feel the emotions of the day all over again. I want you to smile, laugh, and cry as you relive your wedding day.
What can we expect from you on the day?
I use as little equipment as possible and shoot from a distance so that I can be discreet and record natural moments that just don’t happen when people know they’re being filmed. That's not to say that I'm an ephemeral figure lurking in the shadows; I'll still chat to your friends and family and be involved, I just won't be influencing the day at all.
What one piece of advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Timings timings timings. This is the most important part of any wedding day. Make sure you're liaising with your suppliers to build a timeline that works for everybody so that you never feel rushed on your wedding day, experiencing the moments you want and receiving the photos and film that you aways wanted.
What areas do you cover and are you happy to travel?
I'm based in Dorset but I travel around the UK, and the majority of my weddings are based in and around London.
