The Federation of Wedding Photographers and Videographers Proudly introduces

Meet Claudia Rose Carter
My photography career began whilst working for a music studio in Edinburgh in2006/2007; touring Scotland with a popular events band capturing ‘behind the scenes’ and live gig moments for marketing. I fell in love with telling the story of our experiences through the visual arts and was constantly motivated to find the best light in every situation - not always easy in dark basements!
After a few years in photography as a part-time hobby alongside multiple hospitality roles, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to move to London in early 2011, where I entered the wedding photography world at a similar time as the wedding blog industry took off in a big way.
As a result I’ve had my work featured online on numerous occasions and have been able to capture over 400 weddings across the globe including New Zealand, Bali, The Seychelles, New York, Rhode Island, Thailand, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Egypt and all across the UK.
Currently I live in South Derbyshire with my partner Rory, and our boys. We also run a British fine-dining restaurant and events catering business where I handle the creative (and accounting) side of the business.
My extensive experience in photography, event catering and all things love allows me to help guide you through your entire wedding journey.
What do you love about weddings?
The experience that a wedding day provides me on the day and leaves me feeling afterward; absolute connection.
It's like the greatest cup of tea ever, and I'm a big fan of the 'feels' attached to things (and tea, obv). Sensory overload, if you will, but in the kind of way where it's all enveloping.
I've never taken for granted that trust and relationship that my couples choose when they book me, and many of them have become - and are still - close friends to this day.
What is your favourite part of a wedding to capture?
Genuinely, all of it. I see it as my job to ensure no one part of a wedding is 'standard' or 'boring' -- it's the creative role to inject art into each moment!
How would you describe your style?
I operate in a bit of a middle-ground in the way that I approach your day as I’m neither focused solely on documentary photography, nor portrait photography. I always strive to create the perfect balance of images that capture the details, the ‘unaware’ moments, the family group photographs, the couple portraits and the party whilst not detracting from the day in any way.
I have captured elopements with just myself and the couple to 250+ guest African celebrations. Every wedding is so different and requires a flexibility in style to ensure the photographs are a true reflection of the moments on your day.
You may notice as you look through my Instagram or my Journals that some weddings have an ‘editing style’ that is different from others. Some are darker, with a focus on contrast and beautiful light, some are brighter and clearer. For me, the way I work on the day right through to how the final collection looks is inspired by who you two are and the decisions you’ve made for the aesthetics on the day. Your colour scheme (or lack of one!), your flowers, your venue choice, the time of year -- these all play huge factors and represent your visual loves!
What one piece of advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
For every one photographer that was working when I began in 2011 there are probably over a hundred now! I understand that choosing just one for your wedding day is incredibly hard to navigate.
I have always maintained with my couples that instinct and heart should come into play in your decision - once you have a shortlist that fit your budget and whose images you love, of course! Just remember that you will be spending so much 1:1 time with your photographer on the day, so it's imperative that you connect and can relax around them.
What areas do you cover and are you happy to travel?
Happy to travel internationally, and I'm currently based in Willington (South Derbyshire). I have extensive experience of photographing around the UK, including in big cities such as London, plus tiny cottages in the middle of the Lake District.
