The Federation of Wedding Photographers and Videographers Proudly introduces

Meet David Bostock
I'm David and I have been photographing weddings professionally full-time for 17 years and have photographed over 500 weddings in that time.
I guess one of the things that sets me apart from other wedding photographers is the fact that I now hold three Fellowships for my Wedding Photography from the Royal Photographic Society (FRPS), the British Institute of Professional Photographers (FBIPP) and the Master Photographers Society (FMPA). You might wonder why this is important, but it is the very highest professional photography qualification you can achieve as a photographer and means you are in the very safest of hands on your wedding day.
I'm based in North Oxfordshire where I live in a beautiful little village with my partner and our gorgeous Segugio Italiano rescue hound Stella and ginger tom cat Bertie.
I'd love to chat to you about photographing your wedding!
What do you love about weddings?
Weddings really do offer it all to a social photographer and that's what keeps me interested and creative even after photographing them for some 17 years now.
At the end of the day, I get to witness one of the most important days your life.
Your wedding day is an elaborate tapestry made up of dazzlingly precious moments, stitched together to create something unforgettable.
My wedding photography is all about capturing the most fleeting of memories.
Weddings are all about love – love between the couple and the love from family and friends.
As your wedding photographer, I’ll tell the story of your day – from the big ‘I do’s' to the intimate little smiles and happy tears – to create authentic images you’ll treasure forever.
What is your favourite part of a wedding to capture?
There are some parts of a day that are so important for me to capture and often they aren't the obvious ones and sometimes last a fraction of a second but are significant.
The moment when one of the couple steps into the aisle to see their partner waiting at the front (whatever the aisle is) and they are being 'given away' by a close family member. There is usually a glance between the two of them before all eyes are focussed on the person waiting at the front. It lasts a tenth of a second sometimes, blink and you'll miss it but for that person they always remember exactly what they were thinking in that exact moment when they see the photograph afterwards.
These are the sorts of moments it takes experience to anticipate and capture but they are the important ones!
How would you describe your style?
I have a definite foot in both the reportage/documentary style camp and the editorial style camp.
I have won International Wedding Photographer of the year more than once for both different styles. My recent Fellowship panel for the RPS and BIPP had a blend of both. I shoot everything in colour, but I love black and white and chance are you will get a blend of both in your final wedding photos from me.
I firmly believe that there is a definite place for both un-posed, natural moments captured beautifully and crafted gently styled images. Have a look at my You Tube showreel here, that's my style. I like to think of my style (if it needs to be labelled) as 'relaxed and fun with the joy and the love shining through!'
What one piece of advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
After 17 years and 500 weddings behind me the best piece of advice I can give a couple is allow more time that you think it will take for the key parts of the day, particularly the champagne reception following the ceremony before the wedding breakfast. The very last thing you want to feel on your wedding day is rushed. If you want family photos (and most couples want at least some) take the time to think which ones are the most important as they do take time to do well. Also, you will probably want some couple shots together and obviously want plenty of time to mingle and say hello to your guests. A good start for an average sized wedding is to allow 2 hours for the champagne reception from the time you end the ceremony to the call for you wedding breakfast. The feedback that I always get from my wedding couples is universally, 'thank you, we really needed that extra time'.
What areas do you cover and are you happy to travel?
Have passport will travel!
I have photographed weddings all across the UK and also shoots abroad over the past 17 years but lots of my weddings tend to be across the Home Counties & London as there are so many amazing venues there and many of them kindly recommend me as a preferred supplier. However I really relish that opportunity to view a new venue with fresh eyes and new creativity so wherever you are getting married, if you love my style and approach then lets chat!
