Meet John Summers
Hi, Im John Summers and as far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a photographer!
What this means is I am a huge photo geek with over 20 years of experience since I shot my first wedding. Over the years I have work in almost every aspect of photography and always with the goal of taking the best photos for my couple and clients. I am an award winning press photographer with a documentarian’s eye for the detail.
Outside of photography I love nothing more than going for a walking and listening to good music although i’m sure a lot of people, including my wife will tell you that someones who’s musical taste was honed in the heady days of the brit-pop 90’s is not listen to good music!!
What do you love about weddings?
Weddings are amazing days for photographers as no two are the same. It sounds a bit of a cliche but it’s the difference and the challenges of these situations that keep me sharp and wanting to create unique photos at each and every wedding I photograph.
What is your favourite part of a wedding to capture?
Who doesn’t love a crazy dance floor? From the intimacy of the first dance together, to the ceilidh moves and jigs, to the breakdancing we photographers put our safety (& gear!!) at risk but it’s a rush getting that banger which will keep you smiling for many many years
How would you describe your style?
I am a documentarian through and through. Ever since I picked up a camera it was to remember things and document my surroundings. This is the approach I take on a wedding day. Every part of your day has been a deliberate decision taken by you and it deserves to be photographed and immortalised for as part of your life together.
What one piece of advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Always take the time to speak to your vendors, make sure you’re comfortable with them and that they are listening to your needs with what they are offering you. I have always found the couple that I get on with make for the most fun and relaxed days.
What areas do you cover and are you happy to travel?
As a photographer pretty much based bang in the middle of Scotland I am happy to travel in each and every direction and pretty much as far as you want me to go. I have photographed weddings all over the Uk, Europe and as far as New Zealand.
