Meet Sam Marshall
Hi, I'm Sam! A documentary wedding photographer from North Wales, now living in Chester. I've been storytelling through my photography for over 12 years. I discovered documentary, or photojournalistic, wedding photography a few years ago and immediately fell in love with this style of capturing natural emotion on such a special day for couples and their families.
When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll find me climbing, hiking or photographing landscapes in the mountains.
What do you love about weddings?
The main thing I love about a wedding is that everybody there deeply loves and cares for the Bride and Groom, which makes for the most beautiful day, full of happiness and pure joy.
What is your favourite part of a wedding to capture?
My favourite part to capture is the time just after the ceremony when all the guests are enjoying reception drinks and chatting with each other. I call it the bread and butter time for a documentary photographer, with plenty of hugs, laughs and tears. It's a real pleasure to capture!
How would you describe your style?
My style of wedding photography is completely documentary, or photojournalistic, capturing the real candid moments. Free from staging or awkward posing, my style allows you to spend precious time with your loved ones, rather than spending long periods of time away from your guests. I like to be right in the middle of the action whilst being as unobtrusive as possible.
What one piece of advice would you give to a couple planning their wedding?
Make sure to spend plenty of time together as a couple on the day. It's so easy to be caught up enjoying time with friends and family, then discovering when looking back through your photos that there aren't many of you both together.
What areas do you cover and are you happy to travel?
I'm based in Chester, UK, but I love travelling and will happily go anywhere to photograph your special day!
