What to Blog When You Don’t Have Any Recent Weddings

We’ve all been there, you’re not shooting much, and you don’t have much to post on your socials or to create blogs on your website. You’re just waiting for your weddings to pick up. Though from an SEO perspective, it’s very important that you don’t just leave your blog to die. Posting regularly can help get you ranking for new keywords on Google and boost your overall rankings.

Not only that, keeping up with your blog gives you the opportunity to create valuable content for your brides and grooms-to-be, create sharable content for other wedding suppliers and also to make your website super content-rich with wedding photography-related content. Blogging is such a great tool to use to help market your business.

So here are 10 blog post ideas for when you don’t have any generic weddings to blog about, YET!

1. Answer the Questions You Always Get Asked

Think about the questions your couples and potential couples have asked you. Both via messages, WhatsApp on your socials and via email. Do you have an FAQ section on your website? Could you go into more detail on those? What questions do you always get asked on your video consultations?

  • “How long do we need for couple portraits?”

  • “How long does it take for the photos to be delivered (you can go into detail about why here too) ?”

  • “What are the benefits of having a second photographer?”

Turn these into helpful blog posts. Not only will these posts help current clients, but they also show potential couples that you know your stuff. Also it’s great stuff to share on Instagram too.

2. Share Behind-the-Scenes

People love the real stuff. Take readers behind the scenes of your editing process, what gear you use at weddings or at home, or what a typical wedding day looks like from your perspective. This kind of content will send strong signals to Google that you’re a wedding photographer, and creating good quality content around gear and editing that sits alongside the wedding stuff is a really good SEO tip.

3. Create Location Spotlights

Even if you haven’t shot there recently, write about your favorite local or destination venues. Share why they’re great for weddings, include any past images, and even recommend some great places to take photos there. Do some basic keyword research and see if you can write about a wedding there in a different way.

This is gold for SEO, especially if you optimize each blog post around “[Venue Name] Wedding Photographer.”

4. Why I Love This Wedding Photo

Why not go through your portfolio, which is likely to be made up of many of your favourite wedding photos? Write an article about why you love the photo so much, the story behind it and how you made it happen. You can link from this post to other blog posts you have about that particular wedding. Make sure you mention any vendors that are involved in the image. The makeup artist, florist or planner. Let those suppliers know that you’ve featured them and that you’ve given them a backlink. Its likely they’ll share it on their socials and maybe even get a reciprocal backlink.

5. Share Tips for Couples

You’ve got so much knowledge as a wedding photographer or filmmaker, and you’ll have been to many more weddings than any of your couples have!

  • “How to Plan for great light on your wedding day”

  • “5 Tips for Getting Natural Wedding Photos”

  • “How to Choose the Right Photographer for Your Wedding”

Again, this is great content that works really well for social media. Think of more ways you can create content that will give your couples advice for their wedding day. If any of these tips could be helped with additional content from other wedding suppliers, reach out and see if they want to contribute to the content too. A great way to maintain relationships with other suppliers.

6. Client Testimonials + Stories

Find one or some of your favourite reviews from couples and make a feature about them on your blog. Talk about why the couple booked you, how the wedding went, where it was and link to the relevant venue page you have created. Even if the wedding was way back, make sure you include images from the wedding. You can do this many times, giving your overall blog life and increasing your SEO mission.

7. Talk About Trends You’re Loving (or Not!)

Whether it’s film photography, direct flash, or intentional blur—talk about the trends you’re seeing and how you’re embracing or interpreting them.

It’s a great way to connect with style-conscious couples and show that you’re paying attention to the industry.

You can link back to many other blog posts here. Link back to the venue pages you’ve made too.

8. Create Planning Resources

Planning guides, wedding timelines, packing lists—this kind of content is super valuable for your clients and great for SEO. Bonus: you can turn them into PDFs for lead magnets later. Do some Google searching and find some advice for couples out there. Another great opportunity to get other experts to write for you here. Ask those who know about a specific topic, such as planners and florists. They might love the idea of collaborating on a post or guest blogging for you if they’re not so busy with work etc.

Final Thought

Blogging doesn’t always need to be about showcasing your latest work or weddings you’ve shot. It’s about building trust, sharing your knowledge, and creating content that connects. Its about creating value for your couples and potential couples. It’s about creating content that tells Google you’re an expert in your field too.
